YouTube video – Acts of Faerie Charity

There are times, brief pockets of time, when the Good People are so pleased with a Human, that they bestow charity upon the person.
This may take the shape of a single gift or a benefit which lasts a lifetime.’

Before you go hoping this happens to you… first know that you must pass a test of your character. A test based on the values of the Good People.

You may not know it is a Faerie testing your character, you might not rate the task they have asked of you as being of any importance. But you can be sure it is important to Them, and your response and personal values, is of great interest to the Good People.

On this week’s episode we ponder why, from time to time, the Good People put us to the test?

Could those who have been tested and who have pleased the Faeries be ever favoured by them?

If enough of us share core values with the Good People, will that result in greater interaction with the Faerie? Join Kitty for tales and chat about charitable Faerie, you may just think twice next time a stranger asks a favour…

“Alone with your voices” by Marc v/d Meulen

105 – Trolls & Elves – with special guest Anna Bridgland

We’re going North!

On this week’s episode we share tales of Trolls and Elves of Scandinavian Folklore, but you can bin any notion of cartoonish Trolls and ethereal Elves: these creatures are clever, cunning and co-ordinated.

Underestimate them at your peril…

I am also delighted to introduce you to a fabulous folklorist named Anna Bridgland who knows more about Trolls and Elves than most.

Anna has been producing quality, original videos on the subject of Scandinavian and British Folk and Faerie Lore for many years and I am so pleased she has dropped in to chat with us at Encounters.

Anna shares her sense of the Good People, their connection to the natural world and reads one of her favourite tales: ‘The Elves Dance’. Anna’s thoughtful voice and manner compliment her insights into Faerie and, if you enjoy my YouTube videos, I am certain you will like Anna’s videos too.

Please be sure to drop into Anna’s YouTube channel and say ‘Hi’, and don’t forget to let her know you heard her on the ‘Encounters’ Podcast. Anna’s YouTube channel is simply called ‘Anna Bridgland’ or you can follow this link: Anna Bridgland on YouTube.

104 – Faerie Hurling & Football

When is a game more than just a game?

The Good People love to have a good time, but did you know they are also passionate about sports?

There are numerous accounts of folk playing games of Hurling and Football swith the Good People, and at face value, this sure sounds like fun but… as with most other things, it can be very dangerous.

If you play badly, the Faerie team you are playing with may threaten, punish, injure or curse you to death.

If you play too well, the Faerie team you are playing against may threaten, punish, injure or curse you to death.

Before you decide you decline an invitation to play Hurling or Football with the Good People consider this: you don’t have a choice. If the Faerie enlist you to play a ‘game’ with them, you must play.

In this episode, we ponder why the Good People take their team sport games sooooo deadly seriously.

103 – The Evil Eye

by Brian Froud

The Evil Eye: a blessing or a curse?

In her book ‘Ancient Legends, Mystic Charms, and Superstitions of Ireland’ Lady Wilde believes that: “Nothing is more dreaded by the peasantry than the full, fixed, direct glance of one suspected of the Evil Eye, and should it fall upon them, or on any of their household, a terrible fear and trembling of heart takes possession of them, which often ends in sickness or sometimes even in death.”

Safe to say, a person who has the Evil Eye may not be burdened with too many friends. In this episode we ponder how a person comes to possess the Evil Eye, are they born with it? Is it given them by the Good People? and can it be controlled?

Join Kitty as she tries to figure out if there is a link tween the Evil Eye and the Good People.

YouTube video – Should I eat Faerie Food?

To eat or not to eat?

Is it safe to eat Faerie Food?

The answer is perfectly complicated: yes, and no.

That is to say, it depends.

There is a long-held belief that if you consume food or drink offered by Faerie, you will be bound to their realm for all times, never to return to your family and friends.

How do we know this? Because those who have accepted Faerie hospitality and never returned have warned us!

To add to the confusion… we discover that declining food or drink from the Good People can be as dangerous as accepting it and ponder what it is about Faerie food and drink which affects us so.

YouTube video – Phantom Faerie Lights

When is a light not just a light?

The Good People are masters at evading us. When it suits them, they can be impossibly elusive: appearing as nothing more than a shadow in the corner of our eye, or a feeling, a sense, within us that they are nearby.

But what happens when they are so caught up in some activity, that they forget to shield themselves from Human eyes?

On this week’s Podcast, we look at 3 true accounts of Faerie using extraordinary forms of light, crafted into spectacular presentations, and guaranteed to capture and hold the attention of passing Humans.

Did the Faerie intend to ‘show off’ their mad-skills to these Humans, or was it just a lapse in their concentration?

We ponder the source of these peculiar lights. Are they proof of the Faerie being ‘Nature Spirits’? Are these lights born of energy drawn from surrounding hills, trees and rivers?

*Hi everyone, I have a mild cold and I’m a wee bit husky. Please forgive my voice for being a little inconsistent in this episode. Cheers, Kitty.

102 – A Faerie Highland Choir

Hiking in the Scottish Highlands in treacherous weather conditions, Paul found himself in grave danger. Although he had taken every measure to ensure his safety, he was well aware the situation was precarious.

As he settled down for the long, dark, wet and windy night before him, he heard a sound.

A single voice.

Quiet at first, then building to a sea of voices, a crescendo of choir and music.

He wasn’t alone.

This week we share an incredible true experience from a listener of this Podcast: Paul from Scotland and ponder why the Good People stayed with him until dawn. Were their actions motivated by kindness, or did they have wicked intentions?

Join Kitty to hear this amazing true story.

An Act of Kindness by the Yunwi Tsunsdi (the Native American ‘Little People’)

Blue Ridge Mountains, North Colorado.

I was reading some of the stories on the Encounters with the Good People site and I thought I would share one of the stories from my Father in Law.

He was full blood Cherokee and was born in a log cabin where the Blue Ridge Parkway runs now. Every year he would get his Christmas money by walking through the mountains and collecting ginseng.  At 80 years old he could still out-walk most young people who he occasionally took with him.

One day he was out and walked miles and miles through the mountains, but was not able to find any ginseng. He was a man who rarely got angry and did not curse at life. He walked to places he had found ginseng in the past, but there was nothing.

He was amazed and dumbfounded. He always found ginseng.

After many hours he decided he should take a break and he sat down on a rock to rest and eat the lunch my Mother in Law had fixed for him. He looked around and sighed and then, as he always did, he tore off part of his sandwich and set it down, along with a piece of his raisin cake, then poured a bit of his drink out.

He thanked the Little People of the forest, Yunwi Tsunsdi, and offered them that little bit of food. When he finished his lunch he lay back and drifted off into a nap.

He didn’t sleep long. When he woke up he looked around to get his bearings and discovered he was surrounded on every side with ginseng.

He had never seen so much of it in one place.

He gathered all of the ginseng that he needed for Christmas, thanked the Little People and headed home.

Sean.
